The Young Canada Week medal round began with a Sunday
morning game against Mt.
Forest. The Sailors took the lead scoring early in
the first period on a nifty backhander (goal by Joey C assisted by Remi W) that
went over the shoulder of the flailing Mt. Forest
goalie. The Sailors went on to score the
second goal of the game at 9:52 of the second when Daerien R (assist to Cole W)
got a shot off from within a scrum of Sailor forwards who were crashing the Mt. Forest
net. The Sailors went into the change
room with a 2-0 lead going into the third.

The PeeWee Scotiabank LL2 entered Goderich’s storied Young
Canada Week Pee Wee tournament Friday night at the Maitland Recreation Centre
against Central Perth. After a close opening period that looked
likely to end in a tie - the forward line of Joey C, Jensen P and Remi W
(G,A,A) lit the lamp with only 28 seconds left in the first giving the team
their first point in the tournament.

PeeWee Scotiabank LL2 played their final game of the
play-offs in Drayton on Wednesday night.
The team put out a good effort but the Defenders played a fast-paced
game that took time and space away from the Sailors. Coach Little tried various match-ups but with
a couple of players missing from action the Defenders squad proved to be too
much for our short bench. Although the
Sailors played well, the Defenders came away with a 3-0 victory.

So, it appears as though the PeeWee Scotiabank LL2 team misinterpreted
the term “play-off” because, compared to the regular season, their play has
been just that - “off”. Although the LL2
squad has played some solid periods – they have failed to carry that intensity
through an entire game and the result has been zero wins through five
post-season contests.

The Goderich PeeWee local league teams faced off against each other at the
Maitland Recreation Centre last Friday night in what would be Scotiabank LL2's last game of
the regular season. Scotiabank LL2 began
the game strong with stellar defense early that contained the Kinsmen LL1’s attempts
to get into scoring position. Then,
midway through the first period, LL2 lit up the scoreboard on a goal by Remi W
(assisted by Daerien R and Kaleb C).

After a three-week break from regular season play the PeeWee
Scotiabank LL2 returned to form with a 5-0 win over the visiting
Crusaders. Missing two key players in
Aidan A and Joey C, the Sailors had their work cut out for them heading into
the afternoon match against the Blyth-Brussels squad at the Maitland Recreation
Centre. The Sailors came together with a
solid offensive effort lead by Remi W (who scored a hat-trick) and Jensen P
(who scored the other two goals of the game).
The goals were buoyed by sound passing with assists going to Liam D (2),
Aidan D, Jack L and Kaleb C.

The weekend tournament in Welland was great preparation for the PeeWee
Scotiabank LL2 as they near the play-offs.
Friday night’s game versus a relentless Barrie team had the Sailors on their heels
and it was a lesson in tenacity and constant pressure. The Sailor’s lone goal in the 5-1 loss was
scored by Liam D – who took a shot from the corner at an impossible angle that
caught the Barrie
net-minder off guard (assists went to Joey C and Kaleb C). After that, the fast moving Barrie team controlled the pace and didn’t
give the Sailors time or space to set-up many shots on net.

The PeeWee Scotiabank LL2 shut-out the Minto Mad Dogs with a
4-0 win at the Harriston Arena Saturday afternoon. Atom player Keon P made his first appearance
in net for the PeeWee Scotiabank LL2 and he stood on his head. Keon and Grayson O split the game in goal and
shared the shut-out – great game by both net-minders. Keon P’s play earned him Player of the Game. We should give Keon a shout out for helping
the team all season in practice – he has been a great asset!
