Novice Rep, U8, 2011-2012 (Goderich Minor Hockey)

December 27-29.  The kids continued to show great improvement with their individual skills and teamwork at the Kincardine Silver Stick Tournament.  The competition was stiff with opponents like Mount Forest, BCH and Kincardine, but the Sailors held their own and worked hard right up until the last second of each game.  The closest (and by far the most exciting) game of the tournament was against BCH with a close 3-2 loss in the last few seconds of the game.  Goals of the tournament went to Cody and Joseph, with assists by Jack, Remi and Dylan.  

December 16/17.  The Sailors celebrated a winning weekend of hockey with back to back victories against Blyth/Brussels and Wingham!  The first showdown was against Blyth/Brussels with Goderich having home ice advantage.  Jack got things going less than a minute into the game with the first goal of the game (assisted by Paige).  However, Blyth/Brussels struck back less than a minute later to tie things at 1-1.  Ethan put the Sailors back in the lead with a beautiful goal (assisted by Remi) at the 6:40 mark.  Blyth very nearly put another goal on the board in the second period – but were ...

December 3 - Goderich Sailors vs. Seaforth Stars.  After a home ice loss to the Seaforth Stars, the Sailors faced off on Seaforth’s home ice with both payback and determination on their minds.  The result was a heart pounding, action-packed, barnburner game!  The scoring was slow to start, but once it started it never stopped in the highest scoring game of the season for the Sailors (so far anyways).  Seaforth landed the first goal at the 7:59 mark of the first period – but was soon answered with a goal by the Sailors.  Two more goals by each team ended the first period in a 3-3 tie.  

November 27 - Goderich Sailors vs. Listowel Cyclones.  Despite dominating the entire game - and shots on net that were at least 5 to 1 over the Cyclones, the Sailors just couldn’t get a lucky break in Listowel.  Goderich came out strong in the first period, with many close scoring opportunities – including breakaway chances for Jack and Joe - and a puck that stopped right on the line for Cody!  The strong effort and scoring chances for Goderich continued into the second period – but, even with great goaltending and defense, Listowel scored two very lucky goals.  Jack answered one of the two ...

November 25 - Goderich Sailors vs. Wingham Ironmen.  After a close 4-2 loss to Listowel, the Sailors rebounded with a decisive win against the Wingham Ironmen.  The kids started the first period nicely, with Cody and Joseph setting each other up on all 3 goals.  Wingham answered one of the three goals with 27 seconds left on the clock to end the period 3-1.  Cody started the third period with a hat trick goal that was set-up by Ryan.  Dylan landed the fifth goal for the Sailors with a set-up by Cody.  Assisted by Caleb, Joseph was able to answer the second goal by the Ironmen to end the ...
