After a well-deserved break, the Sailors finally learned
that their opponent for the WOAA Central-South Playoffs Championship would be the formidable Kincardine Kinucks. With 4 players at 6’ feet tall, the Kinucks were an intimidating
looking team to say the least – but that didn’t stop the boys from ‘playing
their game’ and giving the Kinucks a run for their money. In a best two out of three series, the
two teams provided their fans with some heart-pounding excitement with two very
close 2-1 games. Considering the
caliber and size of their opponent, all the boys played great and hustled and worked hard from start to finish.

March 8-15 Young
Canada Week Pee Wee Tournament. The 64th Annual Young Canada Week was an
experience of highs and lows for the Sailors, that ultimately ended in triumph
as they fought their way from behind to win the Consolation Championship!
The boys were perhaps still tired from their round robin
playoffs sweep for the first game of the tournament and suffered a tough 3-1
loss to BCH. Despite outplaying
the Ice Dogs, the BCH goalie was a wall and the one and only goal for the
Sailors went to Justin off a nice pass from Alex. The boys bounced back in the next game against the Tiverton
Thunder and outplayed and outmatched the Thunder in every way.

March 3 – BCH Ice Dogs
at Goderich Sailors. The Sailors maintained their perfect playoffs record
following an exhilarating 3-1 win over the BCH Ice Dogs –
making it 8 straight wins!
The Ice Dogs were hungry for redemption and came out fighting – but the
Sailors were pumped for the game and fought back hard. Justin landed the first goal of the
game at the 6:22 mark of the first period off a nice pass from Alex. Going into the second period with a narrow
lead, Justin landed his second of the game with a nice ‘5-hole’ goal off an
assist from David.
Unfortunately, BCH narrowed the lead again near the end of the period on
a power play goal to make it a tense 2-1 game.

March 1 – Lucknow Sepoys
at Goderich Sailors. With home ice advantage, the Sailors made it two for two
against the Lucknow Sepoys in their second match of the playoffs. David got things rolling for Goderich
at the 7:14 mark of the first period with a nice tap-in goal. Logan landed the second goal for the
Sailors 3 minutes later off a nice set-up from Tristan and Lucas. Nevertheless, Lucknow fought back and
managed to land a goal with just 5 seconds left on the clock to end the first
period at a close 2-1 score.

February 24–Milverton
Drives at Goderich Sailors. The second playoffs match against the Milverton Drives
proved to be much more challenging than the first (largely due to their leading
scorer being back from a suspension).
The first period was an even battle between the Sailors and the Drives
as both teams fought for the first goal of the game, but ultimately the period
ended scoreless despite many chances on both sides. Five minutes into the second period, the Drives landed the
first goal of the game. The
Sailors answered back two minutes later with a nice backhand goal by Logan off
a rebound from a shot by Tyler. Justin then put Goderich out ahead 2-1 with a nicely placed shot off a nice pass from Nathan.
