Playoffs Start with a Decisive Win!
February 11– Goderich
Sailors at Milverton Royals. After a wintry drive to Milverton, the Sailors geared-up for
their first playoff game against the Royals. After a minor ‘jersey situation,’ the Royals graciously
offered the use of their away jerseys to the Sailors. Sporting the ‘yellow and black’ colours of Milverton didn’t
seem to throw off the psych of the boys, who came out strong and determined to
win. Justin got things going with
a nice backhand goal off a set-up from Lucas and David. Nathan was next with an awesome shot
from the point to end the first period 2-0 for Goderich.
The Sailors landed 2 more goals in the second period, with the first going to Alex (unassisted) with his signature wrist shot and the second by David (assisted by Lucas). Milverton got on the scoreboard shortly into the third period to make it 4-1. Justin got his second of the game after stealing the puck from a Milverton player on a nice short-handed play. Alex rounded off things at the end of the period to make the final score 6-2 after a last second goal my Milverton. Justin was determined to get a hat trick and win his ‘Beebs’ bet with Stacey – but despite numerous chances, the strong Milverton goalie stopped his chances. Maybe next time “Beebs”! All the boys played superb hockey with outstanding offense, defense and goaltending by Tom. Let’s keep it going Sailors!
