A Disappointing End to a Great Season
On January 27, 2013, the Goderich Sailors Atom LL2 traveled to Wiingham to face the big, bad Wingham Ironman. The first period saw the Sailors start the game in their regular first gear and it cost them.
The Ironmen struck hard and often with four unanswered goals. When the first period was over the Sailors looked like they had fallen out of the boat and were searching for a lifeline. The Sailors found their sea-legs in the second and were able to match the Ironmen goal for goal but could not make up any of the ground lost during the first period. The third period found the Sailors with more wind and they began to sail their way to a come from behind victory. With only 1:23 seconds remaining the Sailors pulled their goalie hoping to tie the game up but with one bad bounce and a lucky shot the puck found the back of the wrong net. The Sailors were sunk! The game ended in a 7-4 defeat to the dreaded Ironmen. Goals were scored by Gillam (3), and Roth (1) while assists were tabulated by Roth (2), Austin (1), Menchenton (1), and Rau (1). Great season boys, now lets get ready for the playoffs!
