Building Character with a Loss
On January 7, 2013 the Goderich Sailors Atom LL2 hosted a very strong Blyth/Brussels team at the Maitland Recreation Centre.  Goderich started the scoring at 9:41 when Paola made a sweet pass to set up Roth.  Roth assisted on Goderich's second goal when Aidan potted a goal while making a home for himself in the slot.  The high powered Blyth/Brussels team matched the Sailors goal for goal and at the end of the first the two teams were knotted at a pair each.

The second period was full end to end action and Oster kept the Sailors tied with Brussels with numerous outstanding saves. With the game tied at 2-2, the Blyth/Brussels team started off the third with speed, speed, and more speed. The Sailors had a hard time adjusting to the shift in speed and over a stretch of 3 1/2 minutes the Blyth/Brussels team pounced for 5 goals. Both Roth and Hartin tried to mount a come back late in the game with a goal each but the break down in the middle of the third was too much for the Sailors to over come.  With the loss, the Sailors learned that they can skate with the best team in the league when they maintain their focus.  Goal scores included: Roth (2), Austin (1), and Hartin (1).  Assists were tabulated by: Paoloa (1), Menchenton (1), Stinson (1), Bell (1), Roth (1), Gillam (1), and Shanahan (1).
