Peewee Kinsmen in a Tight Race Going into the Holiday Break
With only 2 points separating the top three teams in the WOAA South, the Kinsmen Peewee Sailors head into the Christmas break undefeated and with the best win percentage in the division. Some of the highlights of the last three games against Ripley 14-2, Blyth-Brussels 4-3 and Lucknow 10-1:

In Ripley the team played a slow disorganized 1st period but came out fired up for the 2nd and were playing an excellent open passing game by the 3rd. Aiden was the points leader with 6 and his first hat trick of the season. Owen, Nick and Luke each had 5, Owen with a team leading 4 goals, Nick kept his hat streak alive, four consecutive games! Luke had a pair of goals and always the hard working team player, 3 assists.  Eric and Alex both had 4 point games, Eric with a pair of goals, Alex also the hard working team player with 3 assists and goal. In these lop sided 14-2 affairs, the plethora of goals while exciting is always only 1/2 the story, the strong defense shutting down the other teams scoring opportunities and Ben in net always ready when called on is the other 1/2.

The Sailors had perhaps one of their best games of the season in Blyth playing 3 solid periods of hockey. This game was fast and about thwarting the other teams scoring ops, the puck travelling back and forth between ends every 10-15 seconds throughout the game. After a scoreless 1st period Luke, Kaden and Alex put the Sailors on the board digging at the net, Alex putting in his own rebound. Kaden and Luke both got the assist with 0.0 on the clock at the end of the 2nd.

The Crusaders made it 1-1 early in the 3rd of this tight game. A pass to the point from Nick made it 2-1 at 9:03 of the 3rd as Adam's howling slap shot found the top corner. Eric had a nice goal wristing Nick's pass across the net to the top corner but the Crusaders came back 20 seconds later and it was 3-2 with 6 minutes left. With a minute left and 6 Crusaders skating, Wade stole the puck, got the pass up to Eric who put in the empty netter 4-2. With a few seconds left a Blyth player broke out from deep in his own zone and put one in the Sailor net with 0.0 seconds on the clock, final 4-3.

The Sailors hosted the Lucknow Sepoys at the Maitland Rec Centre for their last game before the Holiday Break. Eric opened the scoring early with a nice pass across the net from Owen. Nick had two solo efforts both wrist shots from the hash marks. Eric put in a wrist from the top of the circle also a solo effort. Working in close Aiden's shot off the goalie's pads set up the rebound for Alex's really nice quick snap shot to the top shelf. Kate's great pass from the boards to Nick in front made his hat trick and ended the 1st period 6-0. The Sailors losing their hustle came out for the 2nd period to watch the game it seemed putting Ben to work who, as always, shined in net stopping all but one of the Sepoy shots and taking the Sailors into the 3rd period 6-1. After the flood Goderich regained their momentum and opened with a very nice pass from Nick out front at the hash marks to Eric in the quiet zone drawing the goalie and defence to the side. Nick took a couple steps towards the net and put in the quick pass back from Eric. Eric passed across the net to Owen on a two man rush Owen making it 8-1 Sailors. A nice pass up from Aiden at the blue line to Alex at the hash marks made it 9-1. The final goal of the game had Nick and Eric digging at the net, Eric putting in the rebound.

The team is off now with a well earned rest until January 2 when they play host to the BCH Icedogs at the Maitland Rec Centre at 5:45. Come out and cheer them on!
