First Regular Season Point
Sunday January 18, the Goderich Sailors Zehrs Markets Atom team travelled to Hensall to face the BCH Ice Dogs in an afternoon matchup.  This was their first regular season battle, previously playing an exhibition game on Friday where the Ice Dogs skated away to a win.  With the loss fresh in the Sailors minds, they were ready to bring their game to BCH hard.

During this game Goderich would be stride for stride the entire way with the opposition as they created numerous chances in the Ice Dogs zone as well as fighting hard in their defensive end to foil many scoring opportunities that BCH would attempt.  Three minutes into the first period BCH would score a goal to give them a 1-0 lead after a battle in the crease.  Goderich was not deflated by this though as they would battle the remainder of the period and go into the second trailing 1-0.  The second period would see much of the same back and fourth action that the first period saw as both teams were showing the spectators that they wanted this game bad.  With just under two minutes left in the period Jaden broke in on a breakaway and found the back of the net with assists coming from Ciera and Adam, tying the game at one goal a piece heading into the third.

Just as the previous two periods, the third period had a lot of action for both teams and created lots of tension and up and down moments for the players, coaches and fans alike.  Just over five minutes into the third period Adam went in on a breakaway and fired it past the Ice Dogs goalie giving Goderich the 2-1 lead.  This lead would last only three minutes as the Ice Dogs would pounce on a turnover behind the Goderich net, pass it to the open man in front and pound it into the net.  Immediately after this the Ice Dogs were given a four minute power-play as Adam was handed a double minor for slashing an Ice Dogs player who was on a breakaway.  Just under a minute into the penalty, the Ice Dogs were able to fire one past the Goderich goalie on a faceoff win that went to the point for the shot giving them a 3-2 lead with just under five minutes left and Goderich still needing to kill off two minutes of Adam's penalty.  The team regrouped and were able to hold off the BCH pressure to finish the penalty kill.  With two minutes left in the game Adam went in on the Ice Dogs goalie and defense where he had to think quickly as he was spun around.  Keeping his eyes on the puck, Adam was able to reach back on his back hand and fire it past the far side of the Ice Dogs goalie tying the game at three goals on a nifty goal, the assist would go to Hudson.  In the final two minutes of the game both teams battled hard for that go ahead goal, but they would finish in the 3-3 tie.

This game gave the Sailors their first regular season point, previously having an exhibition tie with Wingham as well.  Goderich battled hard during the afternoon as they were eager to show BCH that the 6-1 loss from Friday evenings exhibition was not the Goderich Sailors team who they know they are.  Great work once again by the team.

Next game is Saturday January 24 in Ripley against the Kincardine Kinucks team 2 at 10:00 for their final regular season game.
