Strong Effort
Saturday afternoon the Goderich Sailors Zehrs Markets Atom team travelled to Zurich to take on the very strong Thunder team (9-2-3) in an exhibition. The Sailors were only able to bring seven players this game due to holidays, etc and knew they would be in for a tough game.
With only two players on the bench, the Sailors were able to hold off the Thunder pressure for a large portion of the game, even creating their own chances on the Zurich net. The first goal of the game would come with 1:53 left in the second period as Zurich would take a 1-0 lead into the third.
As the game went on, the fatigue really began to take its toll on the Goderich players as the Thunder would continue to come at them with every opportunity they could. The Thunder would score another goal five minutes into the third period giving them a 2-0 lead and follow that up with two more quick goals about five minutes later. With Goderich down 4-0, Jaden would show the home team that the Sailors were not going to leave quietly as he cashed a goal on a breakaway that slid between the goalies pad and the post with 4:04 left in the game. The game would end with the 4-1 score as the very tired Sailors team would skate off the ice to an applause from the crowd for their hard work and strong efforts.
GO SAILORS!!
