Saturday Afternoon Excitement
The Goderich Sailors Zehrs Markets Atom team hosted Kincardine Kinucks team 1 on Saturday December 20.
Just as they did in their previous game one night prior, the Sailors battled hard from start to finish with this game. Goderich played end to end hockey, creating numerous scoring chances and Mathew stood tall in net for the team with some help from the defensive play of Jesse, Adam, Ciera and Nolan.
Kincardine was able to grab a goal to take a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game, that would be all they would get that period though as Goderich would clamp down stopping any chances that would come. In the second period Goderich would tie the game at 1-1 three minutes in as Jaden smacked a rebound past the Kincardine goalie with the assist going to Liam. Midway through the period the Sailors were able to take a 2-1 lead thanks to Divan pushing the puck into the net on a pass from behind the net by John, secondary assist went to Evan. Goderich would hold a 2-1 lead heading into the final period of play with the fans on the edge of their seats.
Four minutes into the third period the Kinucks were able to tie the game up at two goals a piece. With Goderich continuing to pressure and work hard, they were handed their second penalty of the game. This time Kincardine would be able to capitalize on their power play as they would take the 3-2 lead with just over eight minutes left in the game. The Sailors kept up their pace for the remainder of the game creating many scoring opportunities, just unable to find the net. Goderich would skate off the ice to a 3-2 loss and a loud ovation from the supporting fans.
Goderich next goes to Zurich to battle the Thunder, Saturday December 27 and visit the Wingham Ironmen on Sunday December 28.
