Friday Night Showdown
Friday December 19 the Goderich Sailors Zehrs Markets Atom team, still in search of their first win of the season hosted the Wingham Ironmen.
Goderich came out hard from the drop of the puck and didn't let up as there would be end to end action throughout the game. The game was highlighted by many great defensive plays with various Sailors backchecking as well as a few breaks down the ice throughout the game creating scoring chances.
After a scoreless first period, Wingham would open the scoring near the end of the second period in a scramble in front of the net to take a 1-0 lead. This would not deflate the Sailors though, as they continued to work hard and not let up. Wingham would notch another goal in the third on a breakaway to give some breathing room. With 1:38 to go Jaden fired one past the Wingham goalie on a breakaway to put the Sailors on the board with a 2-1 score. The joy would be short lived however, as soon as the puck dropped for the next faceoff Wingham pushed the puck deep into the Goderich zone and buried a rebound from another scramble in front of the Goderich net giving them a 3-1 lead and win.
Goderich hosts Kincardine Kinucks team 1 Saturday afternoon at the Maitland Recreation Centre at 4:30 looking to avenge a tough 3-1 loss in Tiverton two weeks ago. Come out and support your Sailors as they look to notch their first win of the season on home ice.
