Sailors Finish Off BCH in 5
The Goderich Sailors finished off the BCH Icedogs in 5 games. The series was a battle from start to finish but the Sailors were able to outlast the Icedogs with a combination of teamwork, timely goal scoring and excellent goaltending.
GAME 3 2-1 Victory
On January 30, 2014, the Sailors played game 3 of their round one OMHA playoff against the BCH Icedogs. Once again the Sailors were able to outshoot the Icedogs 18-12 and Eric had an excellent game in net for the Sailors. The Icedogs grabbed the lead in the second period but the Sailors fought back hard in the third when Eli scored unassisted with 11:27 to play. The Sailors kept the pressure on and Evan skated down the left wing and fired the puck towards the Icedog 's net and with Kaden screening the Icedog's goalie the puck found it's way into the back of the net and the Sailors found themselves up 2-1 on the scoreboard and in the series.
GAME 4 2-1 Loss
On February 3, 2014, the Sailors travelled to Hensall for game 4 of their opening round OMHA series against the BCH Icedogs. The Sailors found themselves down earlier to the Icedogs at the end of the first period but were not willing to go without a fight. Time and time again the Sailors fought their way into the BCH end of the rink and fired pucks at the Icedog goalie but he was up to the task every time. BCH struck again early in the third to take a 2-0 lead and with goals hard to come by for the Sailors many fans in the stands were thinking that the ship had sunk. That is until Eric fired the puck from the blue-line which was deflected off the BCH defender and into the back of the net. The Sailors really took charge from there firing puck after puck at the BCH goalie but he was the better man and the man beat the Sailors 2-1 stopping 26 of 27 shots for an incredible and almost unbelievable .963 save percentage.
GAME 4 3-1 Victory
On February 6, 2014, the Sailors played the final game against the BCH Icedogs and all their hard work throughout the season paid off with the final game being played on home ice. BCH struck late in the first period to take an early lead but the Sailors were a determined bunch of boys who fought back late in the second when Eli scored to tie the game up heading into the third. In the third period, Joey found a loose puck and made a beautiful pass to Keegan at the blue-line who fired the puck through a screened goalie, thanks to Kaden who has found a home parked in front to the net, and the Sailors took a 2-1 lead with just 12:09 left to play in the game. The sailors were not finished yet, magical Joey set up Eli for his second of the game, with the help of Kaden again, and the Sailors found their way to round two of the OMHA playoffs.
