Sailors Knock-Off Number Two Kinucks
On November 30, 2013, the Goderich Sailors hosted the number two team in their division the Kincardine Kinucks. Although outshot once again the Sailors were clearly the better team winning the game 2-0.
Aidan opened the scoring just one minute into the game when he pressured the Kinuck goal mouth area hard and berried a pass from Eli into the back of the net. This was one of only two shots the Sailors had in the first period but it was enough to keep one step ahead of the Kincardine team and by period's end the Sailors were still up 1-0.
The second period saw Kincardine spring their attack on the Sailors team. The Kinucks fired 10 shots in the period while the defensively sound Sailors could only muster 3 of their own shots. Luckily for the team, Jacob was able to break free from the Kinuck's defence and score a break-away goal with only 3:00 left to play in the second period. Ben was able to stop all 10 Kincardine shots to keep the Sailors up by 2 goals after two periods.
Finally the Sailors started to take a few more chances offensively and were able to smother the Kincardine attack. The Sailors fired 5 shots on the Kinuck goalie while the Kincardine team could only manage 2 shots in the entire 15 minute third period. The last Kincardine shot was by far the toughest test for Ben on this night as Ben made a beautiful blocker save with only 1:53 left to play in the game to guarantee a Sailor victory.
