Sailors Beat Number Two
On November 16, 2013, the Atom AE team travelled to Tiverton to face the second place Kincardine Kinucks. Both teams played well, both teams had 11 shots but the Sailors came out on top on this day.
Ben started the game in net for the Sailors who struggled a little in the first firing only 3 shots on the Kinuck net. Kincardine answered back with 5 shots of their own but Ben was able to fend off the Kinuck attack making a few solid saves.
The Sailors finally started to use their speed and superior passing skills to break out of their own zone both quickly and efficiently. With 8:03 left in the second period Jack sprang Eli with a break away pass and Eli made no mistake by firing the puck by the Kinuck goalie.
Less than two minutes later Wade dug the puck off the side boards and passed the puck towards the front of the net. The puck then bounced off a defender's skate and right to Eric who blasted a shot from the point towards the Kinuck net where Aidan was parked in order to deflect the puck past the Kincardine goalie. Two nothing Goderich.
Eli ended the second period with another goal with only 2:27 left to play. Ben finished the second period facing 7 shots with save percentage of 1.00.
Eric took the net in the third period and faced a highly energized Kinuck team who pressured the puck in order to get back in to the game. With 5:58 remaining in the third frame the Kinuck's number 3 fired a near perfect shot over Eric's shoulder making it just a two goal game.
The Sailors team quickly regrouped when Keagan passed the puck to the front of the Kinuck net where Wade slipped the puck by the goalie guaranteeing a Sailors victory.
With number two down the Sailors face the number one team in the league tomorrow in Mitchell. Good luck Sailors!
