Sailors Lose a Tough One
On Sunday, November 10, 2013, the Goderich Sailors Atom AE team traveled to Hensal to play the BCH Icedogs. After their domination of the Storm on Saturday hopes and expectations were high on Sunday. Unfortunately the Sailors couldn't find their mojo until mid way through the second period.
The first period did not favour the Sailors what-so-ever. Little jump, little passing, and even less puck-luck produced an offensively starved period for the Sailors. BCH managed 7 shots in the first period but Eric stood tall stopping all 7. The Sailors had some solid rushes but nothing that materialized in to a shot on net. The high performance offence from Saturday dried up early Sunday morning.
The second period started off similar to the first with BCH managing to get the advantage in shots on net. Even though the Sailors controlled the puck in the BCH zone for long stretches of time they could only create 3 shots on net throughout the second period. Unfortunately the hockey Gods rewarded BCH with a ugly goal when the puck was carried behind the Sailor's net and passed out front and, a long the way, bounced off a stick here and a skate or two there and bam…the puck was behind Eric before he could track the puck down. Eric played 20 minutes of solid hockey making some great saves while facing 10 shots. A save percentage of .900 is a great outing.
The third period was an entirely different game. Finally the Sailors team took the ice resembled the one from Saturday's winning team and they controlled the play in both ends of the ice. Ben took over the goaltending duties for Eric and faced 6 shots in 15:00 of play. Ben was solid stopping all 6 and gave the Sailors the chance to steal a game but it wasn't meant to be. The Sailors rushed the BCH net and fired 6 of their own shots at the BCH net. Countless more pucks flew at the BCH net but managed to go wide, rip over top of or bounce off the posts. The Sailors dominated the play in the third but couldn't dominate the game on the score board. The game ended 1-0 in favour of the Icedogs.
