Sailors Face Storm in Port Elgin
On Sunday, October 27, 2013, the Atom AE Sailors travelled north to face the awaiting Saugeen Shores Storm. The Sailors came out flying in the first period, throwing everything they had at the Storm net but the Storm goalie was able to overcome the Sailor's attack and keep the game tied heading into the second period. Total shots in the first period were 7 - 0 in favour of the Sailors.
Throughout the second period the teams traded chances. The Goderich crowd witnessed entertaining hockey right up until the end of the second period when a Sailor got caught for tripping which sent the Storm on the power play. With 1:48 left in the second, the Storm scored on the man advantage to take a 1-0 lead. With the Sailors stunned, the Storm struck again quickly scoring with only :42 seconds left in the second period to take a 2-0 lead. Eric Played well for the Sailors stopping 5 of 7 shots in his two periods of work. But it is hard to stop them all, especially with no "puck luck" going your team's way in the offensive zone.
The Sailors regrouped after the second period and took charge of the game in the third. Again the Sailors rammed the Storm's end like a tugboat having its way with an ocean liner. Finally, the Storm began to bend when Jensen gathered up a rebound and stuffed the puck in the back of the open net. The Storm goalie never had a chance.
Luckily for the rest of the Storm team their goalie never broke and was able to fend off 22 of the 23 Sailor shots in the game. The Sailors left Saugeen Shores with the short end of the stick.
