Sailors Match Meteors for Tie
On Saturday, the Goderich Sailors played host to the Mitchell Meteors in a game that witnessed awesome scoring chances, great saves and all round entertaining hockey.

The Sailors opened the scoring early in the first period when Eli skated down the right side and fired a laser that deflected off the Meteor's goalie and into the net.  The Mitchell goalie never saw it coming and the Sailors were up 1 -0.  The Sailors continued to press the Meteors by firing 10 shots at their goalie in 3 periods of play.

Although the Sailors were able to match the Meteors speed, Mitchell was able to create several great scoring opportunities in the first two periods.  Sailors' goalie Eric, went above and beyond stopping two break-aways and several point blank shots.  It wasn't until 2:35 remaining in the second period when the Meteors finally snuck one past Eric.  The Sailors had just closed out a penalty killing situation but could not get reorganized before Mitchell's number 7 was able to find a loose puck and stuff it in the Sailors' goal.  Eric finished his 20 minutes of work stopping 7 of 8 shots for a save percentage of 0.875 and allowing only one goal.

The third period saw Ben taking over the net for the last 15 minutes of the game.  Ben had to be sharp early and often.  The Meteors were determined to take the lead and Ben faced 9 shots in the last 15 minutes of the game.  Ben was up to the challenge and worked his crease hard in order to pull out a well deserved tie.

Saturday was a goaltending duel and the Sailors' goaltending tandom of Eric and Ben together stopped 17 shots.  This tie leaves the Sailors Atom AE team undefeated after 3 games.

Joke of the day: Atom AE players have decided to keep their coaching staff intact after an impressive 3 game start unlike the Philadelphia Flyers.
