Atom girls semi-finalists in International Silver Stick.
The McGee Motors.ca Atom girls travelled to Brighton, Ontario on Feb 8th-10th, 2008 to take part in the Cold Creek International Silver Stick Finals.
The girls played well but did not advance past the semi-final game after being defeated by the Markdale Shooting Stars 2-0.
Game #1 was Friday Feb 8th at 3:00pm in Trenton against North Simcoe.  The Sailorettes would play a fantastic game and defeated North Simcoe 4-0.
Game #2 was Sat Feb 9th at 12:30pm in Brighton against the Carleton Place Cyclones.  The girls would never really find their game and were defeated 5-0 by a strong Cyclone team.
Game #3 was Sat Feb 9th at 6:50pm in Brighton against the Napanee Crunch.  Again, the Sailorettes would play a fantastic game and went on to defeat Napanee 6-2
At the end of the round robin play, Goderich had finished first in their pool and would meet up with Markdale Shooting Stars in the semi-final game.  The Sailorettes played the game hard but would come up on the short end of the stick when the puck deflected off a player's skate and went into the net.  Markdale was up 1-0.  Despite, mounting a tremendous offence and out shooting their opponents, 20-3, the Sailorettes were unable to score on the Markdale goaltender and would pull their own goalie in the dying minutes of the game to have a 6th skater.  Markdale would find the empty net with 30 seconds left in the game to win 2-0.
The girls should be proud of their efforts and look forward to provincial playdowns starting in the very near future.
