PeeWee Rep Legion Tournament "B" Champions
The Goderich Lions Club PeeWee Rep team participated in the Zone Legion Tournament in Lucknow over the weekend.
In their first game Thursday night, the boys seemed to lack focus and went on to lose to a well disciplined Kincardine team, 6-3. Scoring for Goderich was Chace Duckworth, Taylor Helesic and Brandon Johnston.
In their second game, the boys met up with the Blyth Bulldogs and went on to defeat them 7-0. DJ Stevenson was the hero of the game scoring 4 goals. Jeff Gordon notched two and Lane Pitblado with one rounded out the Sailor scoring.
Goderich met up with the South Huron Sabres in the "B" finals. The game was fast paced and well disciplined and the score remained 0-0 well into the 2nd period until Chace Duckworth made his way around the Sabre defenceman on a breakaway and hit the twine "where the peanut butter goes". The Sailor's lead was short-lived when South Huron tied it up before the second period ended. The Sailors continued to apply pressure in the 3rd period and Chace Duckworth notched his second goal of the game to put the Sailors in the lead. The Sailors held onto the lead and went on to defeat the Sabres 2-1.
The players and coaching staff want to thank the Goderich Legion Branch 109 for sponsoring them in the tournament and look forward to the district tournament in Arthur, Ontario on January 12, 2008.
