PeeWee Rep team "B" runner up in YCW
The Goderich Lions Club PeeWee Rep team are "B" runner up in the 59th Young Canada Week.
In the opening game, the team played The New Hamburg Huskies, (a BB team) and in front of a large, hometown crowd walloped the Huskies 6-3 to advance to the "A" side of the tournament. Scoring for the Sailors was Chace Duckworth (3), Zack Horton, Brandon Johnston and Jeff Gordon.
In Game #2, the Lions Club PeeWees met up with the Ingersoll Express (another BB team) and won 4-3 in the last seconds of the game.
The Lions Club opened the scoring 1-0 on a goal by Chace Duckworth, The boys then went ahead 2-0 on a beautiful one timer from the stick of Carson Lamb. This lead was short lived when Ingersoll would score 2 shorthanded goals to tie the game 2-2.
The third period would see the Lions Club take the lead 3-2 on Duckworth's 2nd goal of the game however, Ingersoll was all over the Sailors and would tie it with 3 minutes left in the game. The intensity was high in the building and with a last ditched effort, Carson Lamb would take one last shot on net with 3.3 seconds left in the game. The Express goalie would have his paddle raised slightly and the puck managed to slide underneath it, into the Express Net, just as the buzzer went.
In the championship game on Monday March 10th, the Sailors ran into a strong club from Lambeth who defeated the local boys 6-2 to win the division. The game was a good game but the Lambeth team, just seemed to get the lucky bounces.
Scoring for Goderich was Chace Duckworth and Jake Lapointe. The boys should be proud of the efforts as a team this season as this was their last game of the 2007-2008 season.
