Sailors Tie Cyclones 3-3 in First Match of 2017
After nearly a month off - the PeeWee Kinsmen LL played their first game of 2017 last Sunday at the Memorial Arena.  The month off was evident as the Kinsmen crew looked a little rusty against the Listowel Cyclones.  The bright light for the Sailors was Sawyer N who played a solid two-way game and netted himself two unassisted goals.

The Sailors started the game a little flat-footed and although they were covering the Cyclones well defensively – they were unable to hit their stride offensively and there was a lack of crisp passing.  Sawyer N scored the lone goal of the first period on a beautiful individual effort where he split the defense and scored on a nice wrist shot.

The second period once again saw the Sailors failing to set up in the offensive zone and although they dominated puck control – the Sailors were not passing the puck well so the puck control did not result in many shots on net.  The lone goal of the second period was a nice wrist shot by Spencer W (unassisted).

In the third period the Sailors started to lose steam – not surprising after so much time off and limited practices.  Noting the drop in pace – the Cyclones took advantage and scored two goals in the first half of the third to tie the game.  Fortunately, losing the lead woke the Sailors back up and that’s when Sawyer N scored his second goal of the game (unassisted) to re-establish the lead at 3-2.

However, the Sailors were unable to contain the Cyclones who were the hungrier team.  Seeing an opportunity to secure their first point of the season - the Cyclones stormed the Sailors and were rewarded with the tying goal with just 45 seconds left in the game and the contest ended in a 3-3 tie.

The Sailors goal-tending duo of Kellen B and John S played a solid game – the Sailors just lacked the physicality and passing needed to win this one.  With three games left in the season – the Sailors have time to improve their passing game and get the assists up!   Let’s go Sailors!
