Sailors Tie Howick 5-5 in Final Game of 2016
Dec 21st – The PeeWee Kinsmen LL travelled to Howick to play the Hornets in their final game of calendar 2016.  The Sailors looked strong in the first period and controlled the pace of the game in the opening moments.  The Sailors were the first to score when Noah J scored a slick goal on a break-away (unassisted). However, the Hornets answered back with a goal of their own just a minute later.  Fortunately the Sailors reclaimed the momentum when Spencer W scored an unassisted beauty just nine seconds later giving the Sailors a 2-1 lead going into the second period.

The Hornets scored the tying goal within the opening five minutes of the second period.  However, from there – the Sailor’s strong play dominated the second period.  Finally, with only 19 seconds left in the period Adam R scored on a rifle shot from the point and the Sailors once again had the lead going into the third.

The Hornets came out hungry in the third and scored two goals within the first five minutes of the period and took the lead 4-3.  However, the Sailors were never out of this one and managed to score the tying goal 37 seconds later when Jaden M scored off a nice feed from Kate J.  Although the Sailors seemed to be having the stronger game – it was the Hornets who once again took the lead with only five minutes remaining in the third.

Nonetheless, the Sailors never stopped skating and with renewed determination they peppered the Hornet goalie with late period shots.  Finally, Adam R released another big point shot and although the Hornet goalie managed to get in front of it – he lost sight of the puck in the blue paint and Noah J notched his second goal of the game by tucking in the loose puck for the tying goal (assist to Adam R).  The Sailors came away with a 5-5 tie and the knowledge that they can beat this team if they play solid two-way hockey for all three periods.  Good game Sailors!
