Exciting Times Part 2
Before they could start the OMHA Semis, the Sailors had to start their WOAA Lockeridge Division round-robin. On February 24th they travelled to Zurich, to face the Thunder. The coaching staff decided that the OMHA playoffs would be the focus, and chose to rest 4 players. Zurich took advantage of this, beating the Sailors 4-1. The next night, the Sailors hosted Kincardine in a second WOAA Lockeridge game. The Sailors prevailed 5-3 over the Kinucks.
The Sailors started the OMHA Semi-finals on the road, against the Norwood Hornets. Game 1 in Norwood saw the Sailors take a 4-1 lead, early in the third, before the pesky Hornets battled back to make it a 4-3 final. After a night in Peterborough, the Sailors were in Duoro for game 2. The Sailors were up 3-2 late in the third, but Norwood scored a power play goal to force overtime. Early in the OT, the Sailors were given a 4-minute penalty, and the PK was put to work. Noah N stripped a Hornet of the puck, and Colton scored the winner in OT. The Sailors came home with a 2-0 series lead. Game 3 was played at the MRC in front of a big home crowd, and saw the Sailors show their potential. They took game three 5-0, and earned a spot in the OMHA Finals.
Now for the excitement! A big thank you to the Executive of GMHI, for their support during the season, for Jen's hard work scheduling the playoffs, for the assistance going to the Silver Stick Internationals, and for Greg taking the time to congratulate the players. Thanks to Todd and fellow coaches for positive emails and texts. Thanks to the Town for their encouragement and acknowledgement. Thanks to the parents, family and friends for supporting a great group of young men! Thanks to the players for their effort, and creating the success we have had. THanks to my fellow coaches for giving the players everything you have to help them succeed.
Two years ago, 9 of these Sailors became the first Sailors to make an OMHA final in decades. They were thrilled to reach game 5 and see more Sailors fans then Jets fans in Ilderton. Unfortunately they couldn't bring home the title that year, earning Provincial silver. We were overwhelmed by the support we experience in the finals that year. We are very appreciative to see even more support building this year. THANK YOU!!!!! We will see you on the ice, as these young men give it everything to bring Goderich their first OMHA boys title in over 30 years. GO SAILORS
