Weekend wins over Kincardine and South Bruce have run the Midget AE Sailors league record to 11-1-1, good for first in their division.
On Friday December 18th the Sailors hosted the Kincardine Kinucks in the third of four meetings between the two teams. The previous two meetings were a 7-2 win in Kincardine and a 3-1 win in Goderich. The Sailors didn't have their usual jump in this game, and couldn't get a good flow. Ryan opened the scoring for the Sailors, assisted by Noah C and Cole. Noah N scored a power play goal mid-way through the first period, assisted by Drew and Braeden, but Kincardine scored shortly after and the first period ended 2-1 for Goderich. Kincardine scored the only goal of the second, and it was 2-2 at the break. The Sailors scored two power play goals in the third, Noah N from Daniel and Noah C, and Braeden from Cole, to take the game 4-2.
On Saturday December 19th the Midget AE team hosted South Bruce, but it hardly felt like a home game. Braeden opened the scoring, on a rare power play, assisted by Cole, with less than a second remaining in the first. South Bruce tied it up early in the second, before Brian and Noah N scored ten seconds apart to give the Sailors a 3-1 lead. Assists went to Alex, Colton, and Noah N. Braeden stretched the lead to 4-1, early in the third, assisted by Daniel and Cole. South Bruce scored with 9:35 remaining in the game, to make it a two goal game. Every attempt was made to give South Bruce a chance to tie it up, as the Sailors faced 14 minutes in penalties in the final 9 minutes, including 6 minutes of 5 on 3 power plays. South Bruce crashed 3 skaters into the crease, for the second time in the game, and managed to score at the buzzer to make the final score 4-3 for the Sailors.
The Sailors final regular season game is January 2nd in Kincardine.
