McGee Motors Novice Reps Win 2 of 3 Over Weekend
This past weekend the McGee Motors Novice Reps were busy with two home games against Listowel and Mt. Forest and an away game against Saugeen Shores.

On Friday night at the MRC the Sailors hosted the Cyclones from Listowel. Listowel came out flying scoring a goal only 12 seconds into the opening period. However that seemed to wake up the Sailors as they countered with five first period goals of their own. Sawyer had three while Duncan and Kingston added singles.

The second period was more of the same as the Sailors continued to dominate. Firing pucks from everywhere and playing solid defensively in their own end. The Sailors scored four more second period goals to lead 9-1 going into the final frame.

Sawyer scored his 4th, 5th and 6th goals of the game and the second ended when Dean scored a beauty by going hard to the net and tapping in a loose puck.

The third period the McGee Motors Novice Reps continued to work hard and made some impressive passes in the offensive zone. This resulted in Dylan scoring a beauty after a some great passes from Duncan and Connor and Sawyer getting his 7th of the game for an 11-1 final.

Points went to Sawyer (7g 1a), Dean (1g 2a), Duncan (1g 1a), Dylan (1g 1a), Kingston (1g), Simon (1a), Bronwyn (1a),Devlin (1a) and Jacob (1a). Overall it was a great effort by all as the team is starting to play well in their own end which is leading to scoring opportunities at the other end.

Saturday saw the McGee Motors Novice Reps travel north to Port Elgin to face the unbeaten Saugeen Shores Storm. The Storm pinned the Sailors in their own end throughout the first period, but the defence of Cohen, Simon, Devlin and Jacob stood tall chipping pucks out and making some great outlet passes. Owen turned away shot after shot and the first period ended in a 2-1 lead for the Storm. The Sailors goal was scored by Connor who went hard to the net and slid a rebound past the Storm goalie.

The second period was hard fought at each end as Owen continued to make some great saves to keep the Sailors in the game however the bounces were not going the Sailors way as they hit two posts in the middle period and the Storm scored to make it 3-1.

The third period saw the Sailors get into some penalty trouble and the Storm put the game out of reach with a 6-2 final. The second Sailors goal went to Sawyer. However the highlight of the game came late in the third period when Owen made an amazing glove hand save on a Storm breakaway.

Points went to Sawyer (1g 1a), Connor (1g) and Kingston (1a). The team talked in the dressing room how they let this game get away and were aware that with hard work and dedication the team could rebound the next day against the Mt. Forest Rams.

Sunday, Mt Forest came into the Memorial Arena to face the Sailors. The Sailors came out flying scoring early and often taking the game 7-1.

The first period saw some hard work in the corners and great passes to the front of the net pay off as Duncan scored the first goal followed by a stellar end to end rush by Jacob finishing with a backhand shot to the back of the net and Sawyer firing a wrister to the top of the net for a 3-0 Sailors lead.

The second was more of the same as the Sailors scored three more goals to go up 6-0, as Sawyer scored his 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals of the game. The third period saw the Sailors continue to move the puck in the offensive zone as Kingston received a pass from Sawyer and Connor for a 7-0 lead. The Rams were able to get one past Owen late in the third for a 7-1 final. Again it was an excellent team effort with some strong positional play and some timely saves by Owen. The McGee Motors Novice Reps will host their own tournament the weekend of Nov 6-8. Come out and cheer on the Sailors on Friday the 6th of November at 6:00 pm when they host the North Middlesex Stars in their first game of the tournament at the MRC.
