McGee Motors Novice Reps Wrap Up Season
These past few days saw the McGee Motors Novice Reps play a lot of hockey over a short amount of time. The Sailors were in a Consolation Round Robin with BCH and Hanover where each team had to play a home and home series.

On Friday March 4th they hosted the BCH Ice Dogs in their first round robin game.  The first period was scoreless as the two teams battled at each end, with both goalies standing tall in the pipes. In the second the Ice Dogs took a 2-0 lead before Sawyer got the Sailors on the board with his first of the night after taking a breakout pass from Cohen. Simon picked up the second assist on the goal.

Heading to the third down 2-1 the Sailors knew they were in for a tough battle. The Ice Dogs continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with two more goals going up 4-1. However the visiting team took a penalty with just over two minutes to play. The Sailors pulled the goalie to go 6-4 and threw everything at the BCH goalie and Sawyer was able to score his second of the night after some hard work by Duncan behind the net who slide the puck to Sawyer who backhanded it into the open net. However that was as much as the Sailors could muster losing the game 4-2. Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet went to Devlin for his aggressive play and how he made it difficult on the Ice Dogs forwards in the corners and in front of the net. Points went to Sawyer (2g), Duncan (1a), Cohen (1a) and Simon (1a).

On March 5th the McGee Motors Novice Reps traveled to Hanover to face the Falcons, the teams first meeting of the season. The shorthanded Sailors worked hard right from the start but found themselves down 2-0 after the opening frame. In the second the line of Sawyer, Duncan and Kingston were finally able to break the goose egg as Kingston took a pass from Sawyer and feathered a beauty pass to a breaking Duncan who was able to blow around the defenceman and fire a shot over the glove of the Hanover goalie trimming the Falcon lead to 2-1.

A short time later the Falcons stretched the lead to 3-1, before Sawyer picked up the puck in the neutral zone, split the defenceman and fired a wrister to the top of the net cutting the Falcons lead back to one.

However in the third the Falcons were able to score two more goals putting the game out of reach for the Sailors with a final score of 5-2. Hardest Working Player of the Game Award went to Cody who played centre for the first time this year and did amazing job forechecking hard and helping his D out in front of the net. Points went to Sawyer (1g 1a), Duncan (1g) and Kingston (1a).

On March 6th the McGee Motors Novice Reps hosted the Falcons in the return match of the home and home series. The Sailors were hoping to revenge the loss from one day before, however the visiting team won again by a score of 4-2. The Sailors played well defensively and Owen made some great saves, however they were not able to get enough pucks past the visiting netminder and found themselves on the short end of another close game. Sailors goals were scored by Sawyer with one where he found the back of the net on a breakway and Kingston with one after he one timed a pass from Sawyer into the back of the net. Points went to Sawyer (1g 1a) and Kingston (1g). Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet went to Bronwyn who played some centre for the first time this year and was aggressive on the puck and battled hard in the corners.

On March 8th the McGee Motors Novice Reps traveled to Clinton to face the Ice Dogs. What a game!!!! The Sailors took an early lead when Sawyer fired a shot from the slot that took a friendly bounce of the post and in for a 1-0 lead. The Ice Dogs tied it before the end of the first period sending the game to the middle frame tied 1-1. In the second period the Sailors continued to battle hard and Owen made some incredible saves to keep his team alive. Sawyer was able to capitalize on a breakaway for a 2-1 lead and scored his third of the game a short time later for a 3-1 Sailors lead heading to the third.

In the third period the Ice Dogs came out flying and the Sailors found themselves in some penalty trouble as BCH was able to cut the lead to one. With the score 3-2 the Sailors defence tripped a BCH player on a breakaway and we all know what that means, "Penalty Shot". The BCH player attempted to deke Owen but what a save he made, robbing the BCH player and keeping the Sailor lead 3-2. With less than two minutes remaining the Sailors took another penalty putting BCH on the powerplay. With less than a minute left the Ice Dogs picked up a loose puck and were able to sneak it in for a 3-3 tie heading to overtime.

In overtime the Sailors continued to battle but it was obvious that being down a couple of players and having some players playing through sickness they were starting to become fatigued. Approximately half way through the overtime period, a BCH player was able to sneak behind the Sailors took a pass and went in all alone where his shot trickled in for a 4-3 Ice Dogs win. Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet went to Owen for his 35 save performance with most being of the highlight variety. Points went to Sawyer (3g).

What a year!!! These players did everything the coaching staff asked, playing hard and aggressive every shift and were able to walk back into the dressing room with their heads held high. They exemplified the teams motto of "No Regrets" as the coaching staff preached to them all year no matter the outcome as long as they worked hard each and every shift they would have no regrets when the game ended. The coaching staff would like to thank all of the parents, volunteers and McGee Motors for a fun and successful year.  Great job Sailors!!!
