Sailors Looking for Respect from Wolves
On January 3, 2015, the Goderich Sailors Kinsman AE's hosted the Ripley Wolves at the MRC for their second meeting of the season. In their first game of the regular season, the Boatmen travelled to Ripley and the Wolves had a feeding frenzy with the young and inexperienced Sailors team. This time the Sailors were determined to gain some respect back from the first place Wolves team.
In the first period the Sailors came out roaring and beating the Wolves to many loose pucks and keeping the game tight all the way until the 8:13 mark of the first frame. Ripley finally were able to puncture the Sailor's armour giving them the lead heading into the second frame.
In the second, Ripley would strike just 9 seconds into the period to take a 2 goal lead but the Sailors had not given up yet and Eli scored after help from both Jensen and Joe. The Wolves would strike again just minutes later regaining their 2 goal lead. Then with 4:45 seconds to play in the second, Joe found a loose puck and scored, unassisted, to cut the Wolves lead to just one. Unfortunately for the Sailors, the Wolves were not finished and capitalized once more before the end of the second setting up the third with a 4-2 lead.
In the third, Ripley would score first taking a three goal lead. However, Jack would fire a loose puck into the back of the Wolves net with help from Jacob and Dmitri to inch back into the game. Unfortunately from then on the Wolves were just too much for the Sailors and the final score was 8-3. Although the score was lopsided the game was not for the Sailors and many were quite happy that the Sailors witnessed a huge improvement since the start of the season. The Sailors have been gaining self-confidence in the last few weeks and taking huge strides toward becoming a much improved team heading into to playoffs.
"They shrunk!" were some of the first words uttered by many of the Sailors after the game and perhaps this may be some foreshadowing of things to come when the playoffs open up in the near future.
