We are D Champions
The Peewee ScotiaBank LL participated in the Drayton PeeWee Local League Tournament in Drayton and came home winners of the D division.

The Sailors first faced-off against Oshawa the Tournament's eventual A Division Champs. Goderich won the opening faceoff and the Oshawa Winger turned to chase the puck and fell. The whistle blew and Aiden the closest Sailor player was given a 2 minute tripping penalty 4 seconds into the game. Successfully thwarting the penalty Aiden opened the scoring at 4:06 stealing the puck at the blue line skating it in and putting it in the Oshawa net, his arms raised in the air, the linesmans arm went out signalling the goal, the scorekeeper wrote it on the game sheet, but the Ref decided to over rule and called it no goal after skating over and asking the Oshawa goalie if it went in. The wind out of their sails Goderich allowed Oshawa to put 2 goals in the net before the 1st period ended. The boys skated hard and matched this fast strong Oshawa team with speed, skill, and strength for most of the first two periods. Tyler did a great job in net stoping most of their 1st shots, most goals coming when the strong Oshawa team crashed the net and hammered away at rebounds and re-rebounds. The second period saw one Oshawa goal and one from Goderich, Evan scoring shooting the rebound from Remi's hard wrist shot in on the powerplay. By the 3rd period playing short the 9 Sailor skaters tanks were running empty and they couldn't keep up to the 13 fast Oshawa skaters anymore and Oshawa opened up the score with 6 more goals, Nick putting one in the net for the Sailors, stealing the puck a centre and skating it in unassisted at 4:32. The final 9-2.

In the second game Goderich faced Hanover. Hanover had the Sailor defense figured out and the offense couldn't find the net despite many chances in the 1st period and put 5 goals on the board. The lone Sailor goal came at 1:29 Kaden putting it in with the assist going to Nick. The Sailors fought back in the second with each team scoring 3 times. Aiden put Remi's rebound in the net at 5:55 on the powerplay. Kaden Skated it in unassisted at 5:45 off the faceoff and Nick found the net with 12 seconds left with a great pass from Evan, Jayden also getting the assist, passing it up to get things started. The boys held Hanover to a single goal in the third, the game was closer than final score 10-4 reflected.

The Boys found themselves in the D division final facing Arthur. Jack who missed the 1st game due to illness showed up wanting to help his team and that he did opening the scoring at 8:07 with an unassisted goal off the post. Playing hard Nick went down behind the net but sprawled still whacked the puck out front to Evan on the open side who popped it in at 5:14. With 7 seconds left in the 1st Remi took the hard wrist shot and Kaden dug for it and put in the rebound at the net. The period ended 3-1 Sailors. The Sailors dominated the 2nd period. with Evan scoring with a long wrist shot from a pass up by Kaden. The Final Sailor goal of the Game came at 4:11 Joe putting one in up high with the pass up from Jayden to Jack who got the assists. The Arthur team made it interesting gaining the momentum and fighting back in the 3rd against a now tiring Sailor team. Scoring at 9:27 and 4:49, the boys dug back in for the final 5 minutes and went home the D champs, final score was 5-3 Sailors.

The team had a lot of fun and showed great heart playing with only 9 and 10 skaters and played several periods of hockey toe to toe with the best teams in this tournament.

The Scotia Bank PeeWee Sailors are back in action this 7:15 PM Friday January 9th Against the Seaforth Stars at the Maitland Rec Centre, come out and cheer them on.
