Pair of away games
The Atom AE Sailors played a pair of away games this weekend in Wingham and Kincardine.

Saturday's game was in Wingham against the Ironmen. The Ironmen came out strong building a 2-0 lead in the first period. Midway through the first the Sailors when on the powerplay, but could not capitalise on the chance. The team managed to kill off a four minute penalty to Wesley late in the period.

The game was close through the end of the second with Wingham adding a goal late in the period. Wingham had a strong third period scoring 3 times before the Sailors managed to get on the board. Spencer scored an unassisted goal around the midway point of the period to make the score 6-1. Wingham would add 2 more goals to make the final score 8-1.

Sunday morning's game was in Kincardine against the Kinucks. The team played well, but again came up short. Spencer opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, but the Kinucks answered a minute later to tie the score. The Kinucks scored again in the last minute of the first period to take a 2-1 lead. They would score again in the first minute of the second period. Despite being down two goals the team continued to press but could not find the back of the net.

Kincardine scored again early in the third period for a 4-1 lead. As a penalty ended to Wesley the Kinucks scored following a scramble in front of the net. The Sailors worked hard to get back in the game. Spencer scored unassisted midway through the period as the Sailors tried to mount a comeback. The Sailors had several chances with a shortened 5-3 powerplay, but again came up short.

With the goalie out of the net, the Sailors were buzzing around the Kincardine net. Wesley scored following attempts by Justin and Theron with less than a minute to play. The boys had two more chances to score before Kincardine was able to clear the zone and put the puck in the empty net. The final score was 5-3 for Kincardine.

The boys deserved credit for a good effort against the Kinucks. The forward lines were working hard and forced the Kincardine goalie to make several difficult saves. The defence did a good job of clearing the puck from the front of the net and getting the puck out of the zone. Kellen and Michael made some nice saves.

Next up for the Sailors is a home game next weekend against the Mitchell Meteors.
