Atom Hyundai AE first win of the season!
Despite the early morning game, the Atom AE team finally made it into the win column with a solid 6-4 victory over the Walkerton Capitals AE team.
The Sailors opened the scoring midway through the first period. Theron scored on a great pass from Jordan. The Capitals managed to tie the game at 1-1 before the end of the period.
The Capitals took the lead early in the second period, but the Sailors managed to tie the game. Wesley’s pass from the left corner was partially blocked, but found Spencer who rifled the puck off the goal post and into the Capitals’ net.

The Sailors took over early in the third period with four unanswered goals. Spencer banked a clearing pass off the boards that found Wesley for a partial breakway. Wesley fired the puck top shelf to take the lead 3-2. Seconds later Justin did a great job of keeping the puck in the Capitals’ zone and was reward with a goal on a low shot between the goalie’s pads.
With the score 4-2, Kaelan Erb grabbed a loose puck and beat the Capitals goalie’s to add to the Sailor’s lead. Spencer, assisted by Noah, finished off the Sailors scoring with another bullet over the goalie’s shoulder. Two late penalties allowed the Capitals back in the game. With Jordan off, Noah was penalized leaving the Sailors to kill off a 5-3 during the final two minutes of the third. The Capitals scored on the 5-3 to make the score 6-3. In the last minute of play the Capitals scored on the power play to make the final score 6-4.
The defence pairing of Noah and Austin, Cam and Caden did a good job keeping the puck out of the zone. Both Kellen and Michael played a great game in goal. Michael had a spectacular save late in the second period reaching back with his stick across the goal to deny the Capitals’ player an easy tap in.
The Sailors played well with a complete team effort. Both forward lines had a strong game with support from the defencemen. Nicely done Sailors!
