Lions Peewee Rep Sailors heading to WOAA Finals!
On Feb. 24th the Sailors travelled to Clinton to face off against the BCH IceDogs.
BCH game out strong and put us behind by two going into the 2nd period. Seconds into the 2nd BCH notched another one to put us behind by 3.
Sailors just didn’t have our usual game face on.
Finally, mid way into the period Ethan H got the team on the board to go into the 3rd trailing 3-1.
The 3rd period the Sailors were able to get on the board with another 2 goals. Carter assisted by Tyler and Kyle’s unassisted goal shot from our end.
Unfortunately, BCH scored another 3 goals during the 3rd to make a final score 6-3.

This put us behind in the play off standings with only 2 games left to play....

The Sailors took off for the weekend down to our sister city Bay City for a fun filled team bonding weekend to determine their fate while away.

Would they be out of a chance to go further in the WOAA playoffs from their loss?

A pleasant surprise on our return to find out that we were still in it. BCH had lost their game over the weekend to Wingham. Giving the boys a chance to still move on.

March 4th we hosted BCH in a do or go home game.
We had to win for a chance to keep going.
The Sailors came out hungry and played a great game of hockey.
Our defense shut down BCH and anything that came Jacobs way he stopped with stellar determination earning a shut out.
Sailors opened the scoring in the 1st by Carter assisted by James.
The second we lengthened our lead with a nifty unassisted goal by Ethan H.
Justin assisted by Carter lengthened the lead to 3.

This put us 1 point behind BCH in the standings with one game left to play the following night.

March 5th, this was it.
Did the Lions Sailors want to move on to the WOAA finals?
Were they ready to pull out all the stops and play as hard as they did the night before?

Well…

Sailors travelled to Walkerton for the final playoff game.
We started off the scoring with David assisting and Ethan B tipping it into the net.
Walkerton answered back a minute later to tie up the game at 1 a piece.

The second period Walkerton had us scrambling as they scored twice to put us behind 3-1. With 20 seconds left James unassisted brought us back to a 1 goal defecit.

Would the Sailors come out and play the 3rd determined to take the lead and ready to play their best?

Finally, with less than 7 minutes left in the game the Sailors decided they wanted to win
and were going to pull out the stops.
Justin assisted by James and Carter tied up the game.
Some hard battles by the Sailors gave them the go ahead goal with 1:54 left on the clock.
Carter put her in the net assisted by James and David.
With 1:08 left to play a hard shot by Tyler assisted by Carter gave us the go ahead goal on an empty net.

Final score 5-3 win putting us 1 point ahead of BCH in the standings for us to move on to the WOAA finals where we will face-off against Kincardine.
