Season Ends with Exciting O-T Win and Fun Tourney!
The Sailors faced off against the Kincardine
Kinucks in their final and most exciting game of the round robin playoffs. The two teams were evenly matched, with
the first period ending scoreless despite a number of chances on both
sides. In the second period the
Kinucks were able to land two goals and go ahead with a 2-0 lead. The Sailors fought back in the third
period and played superb hockey with Ryan potting a breakaway goal off a nice
pass from Teethal to make it a close 2-1 game. With less than 2 minutes on the clock, Adrien secured the
tie with a nice shot on a breakaway from a set-up by Jack and Ryan.
The hard work of the defensive lines and Tyler in net continued to hold off the attacks by Kincardine to force a sudden death overtime period. The Sailors came out strong in O-T and soon into the period Ryan made a nice pass to Teethal who landed an awesome goal to win the game! The Goderich fans went wild!
The Sailors ended their season with a fun Tournament in Lucknow. The first game was a back and forth scoring battle and ultimately ended in a tough 6-5 overtime loss to the Lucknow Sepoys. Ryan and Remi shared the goals of the game, with the hat trick going to Ryan. The last game of the tourney was a tough one against the formidable West Grey team, but the second game made up for it with a decisive and exciting 7-3 win over Kincardine’s other team. Goals of the game went to Connor, 4 for Ryan, and 1 a piece for Curtis and Remi. All the kids played great with good offensive and defensive play – with superb goaltending by Tyler.
The past week was a nice wrap to a great season of teamwork, skills development and fun for the kids. Many parents have commented lately on the impressive improvement in all the kids’ hockey skills this year. For this we have Mike, Shawn, Ed, Kevin, Dan and the rest of our volunteer coaching staff and volunteer parents to thank! We’re all very proud of the kids for also making this a fun season of hockey!! See you next year!
