Sailors vs. Sailors – One Game a Piece!
January 21 – Atom 1 versus Atom 2.  After a nailbiter first game going to Atom 1 with a narrow 5-4 win margin on January 10th, the two Goderich Atom teams faced off again in their second official game of the season.  As in the last game, our team landed the first two goals of the game – both as a result of Remi’s killer wrist shot on assists from Curtis, Ryan and Aiden.  Atom 2 battled back hard in the last three minutes of the period to make it a 2-2 tie game.  Going into the second period, it continued to be either team’s game – with a breakaway goal by Curtis and another goal by Atom 2.

But Atom 2 was hungry for the win and landed the go ahead goal before the end of the period – and 2 more quick ones in the first half of the third period to pull ahead 6-3.  At the 7:38 mark of the period, Aiden landed a beautiful goal on a shot from the hash marks (assisted by Teethal and Curtis).  Atom 2 matched that goal with one of their own to keep the lead at 7-4.  The game then turned in our favour with a hat trick goal by Remi  (assisted by Adrien and Jack) and another goal by Ryan (assisted by Joey).  With just 1 goal away from a tie, the coaches pulled Tyler with a minute left in the game and went for broke – but it wasn’t quite enough to win the day.   Once again, this game proved that both Atom teams were well chosen to be evenly matched friendly rivals!  The game was also indicative of a showdown between Atom 2’s seasoned goalie and our rookie goalie – and Tyler did an AMAZING job, stopping many Atom 2 scoring attempts and making some awesome BIG saves!  Excluding the last second empty net goals after we pulled our goalie (despite courageous attempts by Paige to save), it was once again just a narrow 1-point win margin – only this time in Atom 2’s favour.  Fans on both sides agreed again that it was another very fun game to watch (in a stressful kind of way!)
