Amazing Effort in Listowel
November 27 - Goderich
Sailors vs. Listowel Cyclones. Despite dominating the entire game - and shots on net that
were at least 5 to 1 over the Cyclones, the Sailors just couldn’t get a lucky break
in Listowel. Goderich came out
strong in the first period, with many close scoring opportunities – including
breakaway chances for Jack and Joe - and a puck that stopped right on the line
for Cody! The strong effort and
scoring chances for Goderich continued into the second period – but, even with great goaltending and defense,
Listowel scored two very lucky goals.
Jack answered one of the two Listowel goals (assisted by Connor) with 2 seconds left
in the second period to make it 2-1.
Once again, Listowel must have had a horseshoe hidden somewhere and managed to land two more goals in the third period (one of which wasn’t really goal, but was counted anyways). Cody landed a second goal for the Sailors at the 5:39 mark of the period to close the gap at 4-2. Three breakaway chances in the third period by Cody were all stopped by tripping - which only landed one penalty for the Cyclones (with the last trip clearly being grounds for a penalty shot!) In spite of the uneven luck, ALL the kids played exceptionally well and dominated the play with very strong back checking, offense, passing, defense and goaltending. The game was clearly the best effort of the season by the Sailors – let’s keep it up kids!
