PeeWee Sailors meet the Mitchell Meteor in the WOAA Playoffs

Saturday, February 13, was game one of the Pee Wee Rep Sailors' playoff series against the Mitchell Meteors. In the opening period, Kody Langlois laid it on the line to block a shot by a Mitchell player, which resulted in the puck boucing up to Ian Simpson who scored on the breakaway at 4:11. Mitchell tied it up less than a minute later, and both teams were even going into the second period. At 13:10, Evan Guest banked a beauty power play goal, unassisted, to put the Sailors up 2 - 1. The Sailors offered up some brilliant penalty killing, but the Meteors were able to squeeze through to tie it up, 2 - 2. At 6:49 of the second period, the Mitchell team went ahead 3 - 2, but a minute later Sailor Stephen De Jager evened the score with a lovely backhand. A wonderful shot by Kyle Langlois at 2:19 was tipped in by De Jager to put the Goderich team up 4 - 3. The third period saw an abundance of scoring opportunities for the Sailors, but it was the Meteors that scored with 1:30 left in the game to tie it up once again. In the overtime period, Kody Langlois scored the game winner at 3:39 for a final score 5 - 4.
The next day, they faced off once again in the Elma-Logan Arena. Despite much of the action being in the Mitchell end, the first period saw the Meteors draw first blood at 10:45, then again a few seconds later to put them up 2 - 0. Some beautiful passing led to Chase Kulich's goal at 9:03, assisted by Simpson and Kody Langlois. Mitchell was aggressive, though, and banked another one at 2:00, and again with 8 seconds left in the period, to put them up by a score of 4 - 1. The second period saw Kulich again benefit from his team mates' passing skills, as he found the hole at 12:33 to make the score 4 - 2 Mitchell. With 18 seconds left in the second, Dominic Burbine was able to close the gap even further with a nice shot that made the score 4 - 3. Many great chances resulted in Kyle Langlois tying it up at 1:38 of the third. Ten minutes of scoreless overtime resulted in the final tied score of 4 - 4. The Sailors and the Meteors face off for Game 3 Friday night, February 19, in Mitchell.
