Atom Sailorettes are Two for Two
It was a nail-biting, gritty battle but the Mcgeemotors.ca Atom A Sailorettes have won their 2nd tournament of the season, winning the Atom A division of the Kitchener Lady Rangers 14th Annual Fallfest.

The girls were a little sluggish to start, tying their first two games of round robin play.  The Sailorettes tied Toronto Leaside Wildcats 0-0 and then at 7:30am on Sat morning, would blow a 2-0 lead to tie Guelph Thunder 2-2.  The tie with Guelph eliminated their chance of finishing first in their pool and thus eliminated the bye to the semi final game.   The pool cross over game would seem them face off against the Bluewater Hawks.   With only 11 skaters and a goalie the girls would dig deep and beat the Hawks 4-1 thereby securing them a spot in the semi-final against the Scarborough Sharks.

The semi final game was a real nail biter.  The Sailorettes would start the scoring first but the Sharks would tie things up and then go ahead 2-1.  Our girls were determined to win the game and with 2 min left in the game, would tie things up.  Regular time would end with the game 2-2.  A 10 min 3-3 OT period would still see the score tied 2-2.  The game was decided in a Sudden Death Shoot Out.  The Sailorettes would emerge victorious, 4 shooters later...  Well done, still with only 11 skaters and 1 goalie.  You girls amaze us with your determination and perseverance and not to mention legs!  Your legs must have been burning playing that long of a game!

The final game was played at 11:45am at THe Aud in Kitchener, on the great big ice surface...against The Toronto Leaside Wildcats.  A rematch of the first round robin 0-0 tie.  With Haley Bowman back in the lineup our D were back to "4".  Thank goodness, right girls.  Our girls dominated the game with lots of offensive rushes, breakaways  and goal posts.  The Leaside netminder was determined to keep her team in the game.  Regular time would end with no score.  A 5 min Sudden death period would also end in a 0-0 tie.    The fans would have to sit through a 2nd Sudden Death Shoot Out game in less than 24 hours. Could we do it or would this be the end of Lady Luck on our side.  After 3 shooters, the game was done.  Goderich Sailorettes 1 - Toronto Leaside Wildcats 0.

Great tournament girls and parents.
