Pre-Playoff Strategy Genius
January
8th – Exhibition Game 1: Lucan at Goderich. What is a sure fire way to prepare for the
playoffs? Answer: Play a game against another
top team! This is exactly what the
Sailors did when they faced off against the Lucan Irish (who are top of the West
Division) in an exhibition game.
With some of our boys just getting over the flu and some just starting to feel its effects, it was immediately evident that Goderich was not playing to their full potential. Nevertheless, they fought a good battle against the scrappy Irish-blooded Lucan boys - and helped their coaches identify where they can make improvements for the playoffs. Lucan landed the first 3 goals of the game, but Goderich started to rebound half way through the game with a beauty top shelf shot by Snowden off a set-up from Ryan and Noah to close the score to 3-1. The Irish got another goal at the end of the second period to out them ahead 4-1. After the intermission, the Sailors played a strong third period and out-played and out-shot the Lucan team landing two more goals: 1 for Noah (assist by Alex) and a sniper shot from the point by Josh B. (assist by Noah). Unfortunately, another clear goal for the Sailors bounced out of the net as quick as it went in and didn’t count. Nevertheless, Lucan managed to squeeze in 2 more goals – albeit, with 1 of them being made possible with blatant goalie interference against Michael. In the end, Lucan provided exactly what the hockey strategists (i.e. coaches) were seeking! Fans from both teams commented on how great the game was to watch with both teams getting a good pre-playoff work out . . . a rematch may be imminent!
