Weekend Recap
January
2/3 – Teeswater and Paisley at Goderich. The Sailors added a couple of more wins this
weekend to their now 23-1-0 record with a regular season and exhibition
game. The regular season game against
the Teeswater Otters saw the Sailors land 3 bar-down goals – the first going to
Noah at the 4:57 mark of the first period with assists by James and Lucas. Alex sniped the next goal on a full ice rush
off a set-up from Braeden to make it 2-0.
Noah landed his second goal off a nice pass from Nathan and proceeded to weave through 4 Teeswater players on a short-handed play to end the second period 3-0. Alex got his second goal of the game in the third period off a nice tip-in during a scramble in front of the Teeswater net with assists from Nick and Logan. Despite some awesome goaltending by Nyden throughout the game, the Otters turned-up the heat and managed to sneak a couple of goals past Goderich in the third period. Nevertheless, Ryan tipped-in the deal closer off a nice shot from the point by Alex to end the game 5-2.
The second exhibition match with the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs in less than a week was another close one. The strong Ice Dogs goalie held off the Sailors for the first 10 minutes of the game to end the first period scoreless. Alex got Goderich on the scoreboard soon into the second period off a coast to coast ‘slide-in’ goal off assists from Logan and Braeden. The next goal was textbook perfect with a pass from Rory to Alex who set-up Ryan in front of the Arran-Elderslie net who sniped a nice shot past the goalie. Some of the boys spent some time in the penalty box during the second period and forced Goderich into some excellent penalty killing – however, the Ice Dogs still managed to land a goal and end the period 2-1. Soon into the third period Logan made it 3-1 for Goderich with a nice back-hand goal off a set-up from James and Alex. Justin got the next goal with a spin around shot with off assists by Snowden and Nathan. Michael played a great game between the pipes for the Sailors, but Arran-Elderslie managed 1 more goal with 5 minutes left to end the game 4-2 for Goderich.
The Sailors also did their annual bottle drive on Saturday and raised $400. Great job on and off the ice this weekend Sailors!
