Ice Dogs Challenge the Sailors!
December
29th – Goderich at Paisley. Seeking a challenge and some practice
before their January tournament, the Sailors were on the road for another
exhibition game – this time against the agile Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs proved to be small, but fast -
and the Sailors were missing 3 of their forwards – all of which made for
an exciting game!
Goderich came out strong in the first period with 4 goals in less than 10 minutes – a hat trick for Ryan and 1 for Snowden, with 2 assists for Justin and 1 assist each for Logan and Lucas. The Ice Dogs fought back and Michael made some great saves throughout the second period, including one off a breakaway. Nevertheless, the challengers still managed to land a goal and make it a 4-1 game. The third period was a back and forth battle between the two teams with the Ice Dogs getting their second goal less than a minute into the period. At the 5:04 mark of the period, Noah went ‘coast to coast’ to secure another goal for the Sailors to make it 5-2. Arran-Elderslie squeezed in 1 more goal two minutes later to make it a 5-3 final. All the boys hustled and played great with some solid passing and defensive play. The team also played smart and limited their time in the bad boy box with only 8 penalty minutes. Michael played a superb game and helped out a ‘skateless’ Nyden who got to take a break on his birthday - and as such, was voted player of the game by his teammates!
