Lions Peewee Update: Some Wins, Some Losses
The team has been very active and continues to find their groove playing together as a team. The team has been strong on offense creating lots of opportunities, defense have been shutting down opposition scoring chances and Bryson has been strong between the pipes.

On Nov 11th the boys travelled to Mitchell to face off against the Meteors. The boys skated away with a convincing 7-2 win. Leading the attack for the Sailors was Kyler with the "Hat Trick" 3 goals, one assist. Other scorers were Ethan with 2 goals, 1 assist, Caden 1 goal, 2 assists, Cody 1 goal, 1 assist and Kyle 1 assist.

Next up was the Lucknow Legion Peewee tournament from Nov 13-15. We would like to thank Goderich Legion Branch 109 for their generous donation of the entry fee. The boys started the tournament off against a tough Wingham squad on Friday night with Wingham taking the win 3-1. Scoring for the sailors was Carter from Curtis. The offense had numerous opportunities, but the Wingham goalie put in a solid performance. Great defence by Kyle, Kylen, Dylan and Evan as well as good goaltending by Bryson kept the game tight. Saturday morning the Sailors were up against the tournament host Lucknow Sepoys. The boys won the game by a score of 8-0. Scoring for the sailors was Carter 2 goals, 2 assists, Kyler 2 goals, 2 assists, Caden 1 goal, 2 assists, Cody 1 goal, 2 assists, Kyle 1 goal, 1 assist, Ethan 1 goal, Dylan, Kylen, Curtis and Evan 1 assist. Bryson earned the shutout. Saturday afternoon the boys faced off against the Kincardine Kinucks. Kincardine looked to have their legs as they defeated the Sailors 5-2 and eliminating the Sailors from the tournament. Caden scored both Goderich goals, Cody had one assist.

The busy schedule continued as the boys hosted South Bruce on Sunday Nov 16. It was the boys 5th game in as many nights and it appeared to take its toll on the boys as the boys took a 3-1 lead in to the third period only to see South Bruce score 4 unanswered goals to win the game 5-3. Scoring for the Sailors was Kyler with 2 goals, 1 assist, Cody with 1 goal, 1 assist and Caden with 2 assists.

South Huron Sabres came to Goderich Nov 23rd for an exhibition game. This appeared to be a good test for the Sailors against a strong skating South Huron squad. The Sailors opened the scoring late in the first, but surrendered two late goals to go in to the second down 2-1. South Huron took control of the game in the second period outscoring the sailors and taking a 5-2 lead in to the 3rd. The Sabres looked to put the game away with an early 3rd period goal to make it 6-2, but the Sailors weren't giving up scoring the next two goals and taking the momentum with numerous chances in the 3rd. The Boys fell short of the come back as South Huron would score a late goal and take the contest 7-4. The score doesn't really tell the story as the boys played a good game. A few bounces could have went the other way in a relatively close game. Call up forwards Dmitri and Ryan provided the boys with some extra punch on offense and defensive call up Wade was strong on defence. Scoring for the Sailors  was Caden 1 goal, 1 assist, Cody 1 goal, 1 assist, Kyler 1 goal, Ethan 1 goal, Evan and Dmitri with 1 assist.

The Sailors have a busy schedule coming up with four away games December 5, 6, 7 and 10th. Then they are home for two games Dec 11th, MRC at 6:00pm, against the Blyth-Brussels Crusaders and on Dec 15th, MRC at 7:30 against Listowel Cyclones.

Melvin Jones, owner of the Melvin Jones Insurance Agency of Chicago, was invited to lunch with the Business Circle of Chicago in the early 1900's. He became a member, and was elected secretary in 1915. Soon he was wondering how the strength of this business organization could be directed towards unselfish service in the community. He began in 1916 to write to other clubs on the question of forming a national association for community service. On June 7, 1917, at the invitation of Melvin Jones, representatives of 27 clubs met in Chicago. At this meeting the nucleus of our Lions organization was born. Lions Clubs became International on March 12, 1920, when the border city of Windsor became a chartered member. Click here for more history on Lions International. This was followed by Hamilton and Toronto in 1920, London in 1921 and Goderich in 1922.
