Busy Weekend Results In A Win And A Loss For Lions Peewee Rep Sailors
Goderich hosted BCH on Friday Oct 17 for their second game of the season. The boys were pumped right from the start of the game and jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 6:41 mark of the first when Cody fed a nice hard pass to Caden who tipped it past the BCH goalie for his first goal of the game. Two minutes later, Kyler made it 2-0 on a nice pass play by Caden and Cody. Great defence by Kyle, Kylen, Evan and Dylan held BCH at bay for the rest of the period as the boys took a 2-0 lead into the second.

BCH opened the scoring at 7:54 of the second period to make it 2-1. Each team traded chances until the 3:09 mark of the second when Carter spotted Caden all alone in front of the net, where Caden scored his second goal of the game on a nice deke of the BCH goalie to make it 3-1. Thirty second later Kyle started the play with a nice rush up the ice, fed a pass over to Caden, who gave a pass to a charging Cody going toward the net. Cody made no mistake bulging the twine and putting the boys up 4-1 heading into the final period.

Perhaps the boys thought they had the game won before the third period started. Bryson had to be sharp right off the start of the period stopping a breakaway, but he had no chance on a nice deflection from a point shot as BCH scored at the 9:37 mark of the third. The boys looked to be still thinking about that nice deflection and let BCH skate in and quickly added another at 8:51 to cut the lead to 4-3. BCH was coming hard and looking for the equalizer, but Bryson would have no part of it, stoning BCH on two separate occasions preserving the lead. Goderich went up 5-3 at the 6:52 mark when Ethan made a nice neutral zone pass to Caden who cut in on a nice rush and finish for his third goal of the game to complete the hat trick. Not giving up, BCH scored at the 4:05 mark to cut the lead to 5-4. The boys were determined not to let this one slip away and right off the face off went down and scored 10 seconds later when Kyler scored his second of the game on great passing by Caden and Cody making it 6-4. Cody struck again for his second of the game at the 2:09 mark on a nice pass from Caden to make it 7-4. That was the final score of a very entertaining and offensively minded game from both teams.

The boys travelled to Listowel the next day, Saturday, Oct 18 for their first road game of the year. They knew they were going to be in for a battle against a well rested Listowel team. Both teams skated hard and had chances in the first period but great goaltending from Bryson and the Listowel goalie had the game scoreless after the first period.

The teams traded chances early in the second, but a nice tipped shot from the point on a screened Bryson put Listowel up 1-0 midway through the second. This seemed to give Listowel more energy as they scored two more unanswered goals to take a 3-0 lead. Goderich finally got on the board when Ethan made a nice play over to Curtis whose shot was stopped by the Listowel goalie, but Carter was in the right spot and deposited the rebound to make it 3-1. Listowel wasn’t fazed by the Goderich goal and came back with two more unanswered goals to give them a 5-1 lead heading into the third period.

It looked like the rested legs of Listowel were too much for the boys as Listowel skated hard and made some nice passing plays to score two more in the third. The final score was 7-1. The boys will be fired up for a rematch against Listowel when they play them again in December.

The boys are back in action October 25 when they travel to Brussels to take on Blyth-Brussels at 5:00. They have two home games on Saturday, Nov 1st against Walkerton at 5:45pm at the MRC and Sunday Nov 2nd at 6:00pm at Memorial Arena.

November 1st is GMHI Gives Back Day. We encourage the fans to come out and also donate non-perishable food items to our local food bank.  There will be boxes set up at the MRC and Memorial Arena.

Melvin Jones, owner of the Melvin Jones Insurance Agency of Chicago, was invited to lunch with the Business Circle of Chicago in the early 1900's. He became a member, and was elected secretary in 1915. Soon he was wondering how the strength of this business organization could be directed towards unselfish service in the community. He began in 1916 to write to other clubs on the question of forming a national association for community service. On June 7, 1917, at the invitation of Melvin Jones, representatives of 27 clubs met in Chicago. At this meeting the nucleus of our Lions organization was born. Lions Clubs became International on March 12, 1920, when the border city of Windsor became a chartered member. Click here for more history on Lions International. This was followed by Hamilton and Toronto in 1920, London in 1921 and Goderich in 1922. The Goderich Lions Club was sponsored by the Windsor Lions Club, and received its Charter on August 22, 1922 with 27 charter members. Goderich Lions Club was the 4th club in Canada to receive its charter. The first luncheon of the Goderich Lions Club was held on September 21, 1922.
