Sailors Revenge Loss With Win Against Cyclones
On the 7th of February the McGee Motors Novice Reps hosted the Listowel Cyclones in the back end of the home and home series. The Sailors were hoping to avenge last week's 7-3 loss with Keon back in the pipes.
The first period was a back and forth battle, same as the season series has been thus far. Listowel went up 1-0 early and about half way through the first, the Sailors got caught allowing a Cyclone breakaway but Keon stood his ground and made a great right pad save.
With only seconds left in the opening frame, Iain broke down the left side and fired a wrist shot over the head of the goalie into the top shelf with only 0.2 seconds left to tie the game 1-1 heading to the second.
The second was more of the same, as the teams battled for every puck and every inch of space. The McGee Motors Novice Reps carried the play and fired shot after shot on the goalie but he stood tall, and the visiting team scored shorthanded to go ahead 2-1 heading into the third.
The Sailors were not going down without a fight and they continued to fire shots on the Cyclone net and were winning loose puck battles. The defence of Ella, Caleb, AJ and Graham stood strong on the back end clearing pucks away from Keon and making great lead passes out of the defensive zone. With three minutes remaining Mason found himself behind the Cyclone net with the puck on his stick and feathered a pass into the slot where Sawyer one timed it into the net, beating the Cyclone netminder low to the stick side, tying the score 2-2.
With only one minute left the Cyclones made a rush into the Sailor zone and tried to pass it across the middle of the slot, however a back checking Sawyer, intercepted the pass, turned up ice and banked a pass off the boards to a streaking Iain who broke down the left side and fired a wrister of the post and in for a 3-2 Sailor lead.
The McGee Motors Novice Reps were able to pin the Cyclones in their end for the remaining time, taking the game 3-2. The Hardest Working Player of the Game helmet was presented to the entire team, as the win was a team effort as every forward, defence, and goalie played aggressive and worked together!! Nice job Sailors!!
