McGee Motors Novice Reps; 1 Win and 1 Loss in Round Robin Action
This past weekend the McGee Motors Novice Reps started their round robin series with the Mount Forest Rams and the Blyth-Brussels Crusaders. On Saturday they hosted the Rams and came out on the losing end of a close and tightly checked game 2-1.
The first period was scoreless as Keon stopped everything that the Rams threw his way, but in the middle of the second period the visiting team opened the scoring after Keon made the first save and the rebound came out to a wide open Rams forward who potted the goal.
In the third period the Rams added to their lead with a high wrister into the Sailors net. However the Sailors did not quit and continued to take the game to the Rams netminder. With three minutes left Sawyer took a pass from AJ and beat the defenceman wide firing a shot on net, which was stopped, however Graham going to the net hard was rewarded as he fired a quick shot into the Rams net closing the gap to 2-1.
The Sailors continued to work hard, but were trapped in their own end for the last few moments of the third by a hard working Rams fore check, losing the game 2-1.
On Sunday, the McGee Motors Novice Reps did not have time to dwell on the loss one day before as they hosted the Blyth-Brussels Crusaders. The Sailors came out flying, working hard as a team, moving the puck and playing aggressive. In the first Iain scored two highlight reel goals as he busted loose and went in all alone firing shots into the net past the outstretched hand of the Crusaders goalie. Assists on Iain's goals went to Kael and Mason.
In the second period the Sailors continued to put pressure on the Crusaders defence as AJ took a pass from Kael and moved it ahead to an open Sawyer, who broke through the defence and went to the backhand to beat the Crusaders goalie for a 3-0 lead. The Crusaders closed the Sailors lead to 3-1 with a late second period goal.
In the third the Crusaders scored another cutting the Sailors lead to 3-2, however the comeback was not going to happen as AJ scored a highlight reel beauty, picking up the puck at centre, split the defence and fired a high wrister into the top left corner of the net giving the Sailors another two goal lead, 4-2.
Late in the third period, Iain scored another to complete the hat trick, receiving a pass from Caleb and firing a shot from the right side that squeezed past the Crusaders goalie for a 5-2 win. Next weekend the McGee Motors Novice Reps travel to Brussels on Friday night and Mount Forest on Saturday in hopes of building on a well deserved win.
