Win and a Tie Put McGee Motors Novice Reps into WOAA Finals
Over this past weekend the McGee Motors Novice Reps were able to capture a tie and a win which moves them onto the WOAA Consolation Finals.
On Friday evening the team traveled to Brussels to face off against the Crusaders. The Sailors went up early with Iain and Logan scoring two beauties into the top corners of the net, ending the first with a 2-1 Sailors lead. Assists on the goals went to Graham and Iain.
In the second the Sailors continued their dominance scoring two more goals, both of them by Iain after he was able to break free at centre and go in all alone scoring a beauty shot to the bottom of the net and getting his hat trick goal after a beauty deke. Assists on these two gaols went to AJ with two and Jared and Kael with one each. The second ended with a Sailors 4-2 lead.
However the third period was much different as the Crusaders never quit and fired shot after shot at Keon who made save after save, but in the last 33 seconds the Crusaders scored two very quick goals forcing the game into overtime.
In the middle of the OT frame the Sailors took a penalty, but the team stood strong as the defensive core, Keon and the forwards worked together to kill it off. The Sailors were not able to score in the final frame and the game ended in a 4-4 tie.
The next day saw the McGee Motors Novice Reps head to Mount Forest to face the Rams in a must win game to decide their own fate if they would move onto the WOAA Consolation Final. The Sailors worked hard together scoring early into the first as AJ took a beauty pass from Graham, went in all alone and beat the goalie with a high wrister only 40 seconds into the game. The second assist on the goal went to Iain who was able to move the puck up to Graham. However the home team was able to score late in the first, tying the game 1-1 heading to the second.
In the second the Sailors continued to dominate and AJ scored another beauty with assists going to Graham and Devlin. The Rams goalie and Keon stood strong for the rest of the middle period, allowing the Sailors to go into the third with a 2-1 advantage.
In the final frame the McGee Motors Novice Reps continued to fire shots at the Rams net and Aiden made a gorgeous pass to Iain who fired a beauty shot into the net for a 3-1 lead. Second assist on the goal went to Mason with hard work in the corner was able to get the puck to Aiden. The Sailors were not going to squander this lead as they played as a team, back checked hard and were able to chip the puck out of their zone when the pressure was on. They played a flawless third period winning the game 3-1.
