Short handed Sailors fall short to Cyclones
On the 24th day of January the McGee Motors Novice Reps traveled to Listowel to face the Cyclones with a short handed squad. With a couple of players sick including Keon, our super little goalie, Logan stood up and said he would put on the pads and protect the net.
These two teams have had some close games battling back and forth and this was no different until late in the third.
The Sailors started off the scoring mid way through the first period, when Iain broke loose and took a nice feed from Graham scoring a beauty, but only one minute later the home side tied it up and this is how the opening frame ended 1-1.
In the second it was more of the same, with the Sailors trying to help out Logan in his debut as a goaltender. Logan stopped some nice shots, but couldn't stop them all, as the Cyclones fired three second period goals, going up 4-1 after the second period.
The McGee Motors Novice Reps were not going to go away quietly as they came out flying to start the third scoring two quick goals cutting the Cyclone lead to 4-3. The first was scored by Sawyer as he cut down the right side, beating the defenceman wide and firing a wrist shot over the glove of the Cyclone goalie. The Sailors third goal was scored by Mason as he broke down the left side, made a nice inside move on the defenceman and fired a low shot stick side.
The defence core of Caleb, Jared, Ella and AJ continued to battle and help out Logan as they cleared pucks away from the front of the net and played aggressively in the corners. But the comeback was not meant to be as the flood gates opened and the Cyclones fired three quick goals into the Sailors net ending the game 7-3. Logan for his hard work between the pipes and stepping up and volunteering to play net won the Hardest Working Player of the Game helmet. The Sailors play the Cyclones again on February 7th at the Maitland Rec Centre at 3:30, come on out and cheer your young hardworking Sailors!!!
