One Loss and a Tie for McGee Motors Novice Reps
On the 20th day of December the Sailors hosted Listowel and lost a tough one 6-3. The first period was back and forth and ended tied at 2-2 after Iain scored two breakaway goals going backhand to forehand and sliding it past the goalie low on the stick side. Assists on theses two highlight real goals went to Caleb and Sawyer.
In the second period Listowel took control of the game with two quick goals leading 4-2 going into the third. In the final frame Iain completed his hat trick with another breakaway goal, cutting the lead to 4-3.
But it was too little too late as Listowel scored two late goals to win 6-3. For his natural hat trick Iain earned the coveted helmet for the Hardest Working Player of the Game.
The next day the Novice Reps had to face their nemisis the BCH Ice Dogs. The last time they faced this top ranked team the Ice Dogs took a large bite out of the Sailors with a 11-0 win. However this Sailors team played thir best game of the season implementing a lot of things from practice into this game. The entire team played aggressively, stopping the talented team from BCH at every turn and passed the puck with conviction to each other earning an incredible 3-3 tie.
The Sailors opened up the scoring when Sawyer took a great feed from Ryan fired a shot on net and Iain buried the rebound for a 1-0 lead. Shortly after Iain continued his hot streak with another goal firing it top shelf on the BCH goalie for a 2-0 lead. Before the end of the first BCH closed the lead with a beauty making the score 2-1.
The second and third was the Keon show as the little tender made save after save turning BCH away after every shot. However they squeezed one by him late in the second tying the game at two heading to the third. In the third Iain completed the natural hat trick for the second game in a row taking a feed from AJ and Caleb and burying a shot low to the stick side. The Sailors continued to battle as all the defence of Caleb, AJ, Jared and Ella played aggressive and made great outlet passes, and all the forwards, Iain, Mason, Sawyer, Ryan, Devlin, Kael, Logan and Graham back checked hard and moved the puck well. It was late in the third that BCH tied the game and that's how this back and forth contest ended 3-3.
Overall this was by far the best game played by the McGee Motors Novice Reps and the hardest working player of the game helmet went to Jared for his aggressive play at the back end and great first passes.
