Unfortunately I was unable to accompany the team to Lakefield due to work commitments. Coach Brown sends this report.
Well, what better way to start a series then with an overtime win. We made the 4 1/2 hr drive to Lakefield and played a fast paced game with both goalies making some great saves. We opened the scoring 3 1/2 minutes into the game with Justin perched at the side of the net on a beauty pass from Ryan, helped out with Alex doing some grinding along the wall. Then the fun started, back and forth. first ended 1-0 Sailors.
Second period was more back and forth and lots of chances, but no luck for either team
Third period, Lakefield came out guns a blazin, but the Sailors were holding on, and getting some chances of our own. With 18 seconds left the Sailors called a timeout with the faceoff in our own end(coaches bad). The Chiefs scored with the goalie pulled and 15 seconds on the clock
Overtime saw many chances early with some so close. Then we lost Braeden on a knee to knee collision. The Sailors then dug deep and Daniels hard work drew a tripping penalty. The Sailors head on the power play and Kody had a few big shots from the point. Then with a scramble in front of the net, the ref starts pointing goal. The Sailors celebrate Liam's OT winner assisted by Daniel.
An excellent team effort from all the boys. Tanner again played amazing between the pipes
