After a tough loss on Monday night in Ilderton, the Marcc Apparel Bantam AE Sailors returned home Tuesday night in a do or die situation.
The Sailors knew Ilderton would come out hard, and knew they needed to stay out of the penalty box. Almost a mirror image to the previous night, the Sailors opened the scoring with just over eight minutes remaining in the first period. This time it was Justin who scored, when he jumped on Ryan's rebound. The lead was short-lived, as the Jets scored less than four minutes later. The first period ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Sailors continued to pressure the Jets in the second. Daniel tipped a shot toward the Jets net, but their goalie made a nice save. The crowd thought that he had buried the rebound, but the referee signaled no goal. Shortly after, on another goal-mouth scramble, Justin did bulge the twine, again assisted by Ryan, to give the Sailors a 2-1 lead. A minute later Daniel ended his slump, when he swatted a rebound in, assisted by Liam. The Sailors went into the break holding a 3-1 lead.
In the third period, the Sailors were happy to play a defense first game, holding the Jets at bay. Ilderton pulled their goalie, and with 77 seconds left, a point shot took a wild bounce off a Jet glove, and the lead was cut to 3-2. The Sailor killed the clock, and the Maitland Recreational Centre erupted. The Sailors have forced a deciding game 5 in Ilderton on Friday March 28th.
On a sad note, the Marcc Apparel Bantam AE Sailors would like to send their condolences to Coach Brown, teammate Dwyer, and the entire Brown family for the loss of husband/father/grandfather Bill Brown. Bill was a long time Lion, former GMHI President, and tireless supporter of the AE Sailors. His booming voice and sense of humor will be missed.
