Road Win
On Monday February 10th, the Marcc Apparel Bantam AE Sailors traveled to Monkton to face the Elma Logan Wildcats, in their third WOAA round robin game. After splitting games on the weekend, the coaches were eager to see which team would show up for this road game. Coach Brown decided to shake things up a bit, shuffling a couple lines, moving Troy to wing and Braeden to defence.
The changes seemed to work, the line of Ryan, Justin and Alex peppered the Wildcat goalie with shots, Daniel, Liam and Noah cycled the puck well, creating several scoring chances, and the new line of Kody, Kyle and Troy won the battles along the boards. Mid way through the first, Ryan opened the scoring, when he grabbed the puck down low, and beat the Wildcat goalie short side, assisted by Brady. Unfortunately the lead was short lived, as Elma Logan grabbed a loose puck in the slot and tied it up. With 23 seconds left in the first, the Wildcats made a couple nice passes, feeding an open man out front, and took a 2-1 lead into the second.
Like the previous Saturday, the Sailors showed their heart, coming out hard, and pressuring the Wildcat defense. With six minutes to go in the period, and the Sailors on a rare power play, Justin slid a loose puck by the Wildcat goalie, assisted by Ryan and Kody, to knot the game at 2-2. Both teams had scoring chances, but neither goalie would give up another goal in the second.
The third period became a battle. As the Sailors started to pressure, the Wildcats got more physical. Both team started taking the body more, including a couple punishing shots by Kody. The Sailors were not going to quit or be intimidated. With 92 seconds remaining in the game, Braeden gathered up a loose puck inside the Sailor blue line, skated through the Wildcats, and fired a shot inside the post for the winner. Elma Logan pulled their goalie, but were unable to get control of the puck away from the Sailor defense.
Next weekend the Marcc Apparel Bantam AE Sailors are on the road again. Saturday they are in Durham to face West Grey in their 4th WOAA round robin game. Sunday it is Mildmay, where they battle South Bruce for the WOAA Bantam AE 4-5 title. Sunday's game determines if they face Ilderton in the OMHA semi-finals, or travel to Eastern Ontario to battle Lakefield/Brighton. Go Sailors Go
