OMHA Game#2
On Wednesday January 29th, the Marcc Apparel Bantam AE Sailors hosted the Mitchell Meteors in the second game of the OMHA round robin qualifying round. Having beaten Mitchell 5-2 earlier, the boys knew a win would guarantee them advancement to the OMHA semi-finals.

Just like the previous game between the two teams, it was up tempo and end to end for the first five minutes. With just under ten minutes remaining in the first period, Kody picked up the puck just inside the blue line, dangled the Meteor defender, and beat the goalie to open the scoring, assisted by Dwyer. With three minutes remaining in the period, Ryan took a pass from Braeden in the neutral zone, and raced up the ice to score a power play goal and put the Sailors up 2-0.
Mid-way through the second period, the Sailors found themselves on a second power play. This time it was Justin that used his speed to the outside, going around the Meteor defender, and feeding a beautiful pass out to Braeden, who made no mistake, beating the Mitchell goalie to extend the lead to 3-0. Dwyer picked up the second assist on the play. Late in the frame, Mitchell scored on a two on one, to make it a two goal game, but Braeden quickly answered back, on a back hand wrap-around, assisted by Justin and Brady. The second period ended with the Sailors up 4-1, even after having two goals called back, and in control.
The third period saw hard work paid off. With the Sailors having a big lead, the game started getting chippy, and the penalty box filled up. Four minutes into the period, Luc worked hard behind the net, taking a hit to make the play, and fed the puck to Kyle L, who had won the battle in front of the net, and he stretched the lead to 5-1. The penalty killers worked their magic, and with only 7 minutes left, Braeden fed a pass back to Brady, who fired a shot that Justin deflected at the Meteor net. The Mitchell goalie made the initial save, and Justin potted the rebound, but the goal was called back for high-sticking, their third disallowed goal of the game. Mitchell scored late, but the Sailors held on for a 5-2 win, clinching a spot in the OMHA semi-finals. An excellent team effort, and more solid goaltending from Kyle P.
The win guaranteed advancement from the round robin portion of the playoffs, but the Marcc Apparel Bantam AE team has two remaining round robin games, both against South Bruce, to determine the WOAA Bantam AE champions, and the seeding in the OMHA semi-finals. They also have games in the WOAA Greig division round-robin. Next home action for the Sailors is Saturday February 1st, 3:30pm, when they host South Bruce at the Maitland Recreation Centre.
